Humble, of boundless energy, a bright spark, kind hearted – these are just a few of the words used to describe the late Dr. Andy Somody, who tragically passed this past February. Blessed with a quenchless curiosity, Andy completed his degree in Systems Engineering before deciding to turn his passion for connecting with and helping others into his professional focus.

Andy enrolled in the Boucher Institute naturopathic doctoral program in 2005. During his studies, he gravitated towards the principles of homeopathy: Andy was fascinated by the body’s ability to learn how to heal itself, and the efficacy of creating a healing journey for his patients that would demonstrate to them their innate ability to feel good in their bodies. Upon graduating from Boucher in 2009, he became a board-certified Naturopathic Physician in Port Coquitlam and North Vancouver, where he threw himself into caring for his community. His focus on homeopathic treatments ensured that his patients were never exposed to toxic drugs. Andy spent long hours with his patients, crafting personalized care plans and remedies. Andy was tender and attentive, and his patients and friends alike loved him for it.

In addition to his commitment to his patients, Andy was also an adventurous entrepreneur and dedicated teacher. He built his practice from a small office in North Vancouver into a busy epicentre of natural remedy. Outside of his practice, Andy explored his many interests including music, singing, astronomy, research, the stock market, and spirituality.

It is our great honor to offer a scholarship in memory of the great doctor and kind soul, Dr. Andy Somody. The scholarship is awarded to a 2nd or 3rd year student at Boucher who best exhibits their commitment to the practice of homeopathy, and demonstrates their excitement about and dedication to the promotion and exploration of the craft. Andy was a force in naturopathic medicine, and in the lives of his friends, family, and patients. This award seeks to recognize the tireless passion and energy that Andy brought to his work in the doctors of tomorrow.
