Teaching assistants are committed to continuous student learning and demonstrate passion and skill in effective teaching/learning facilitation. Teaching assistants perform duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students.  They serve in a position for which a faculty member or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services. They are committed to on-going assessment and evaluation of their teaching skills and are competent in working with diverse student populations. The teaching assistant demonstrates commitment to the vision, mission and values of the Institute and to their continued personal growth and professional development. Finally, they demonstrate and promote high ethical standards and academic honesty.

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS for TA POSITIONS: 

Qualified applicants should hold an ND, or a terminal diploma in their area of expertise.

Teaching Assistants roles involve planning and delivering the naturopathic educational curriculum in accordance with the Boucher Institute student learning outcomes. Faculty members will model professional behaviour and provide informal feedback and formal evaluation to the student and appropriate administration in a timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The teaching assistant will;

  • Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of instructor, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  • Discuss assigned duties with instructors in order to coordinate instructional efforts
  • Prepare lesson materials, exams and demonstrations as directed by instructor
  • Input grades according to the attached data entry instructions through Orbund
  • Upload course material to Moodle
    • Format Moodle quizzes
  • Requisition and stock teaching materials and supplies as requested by instructor Ensure classrooms are stocked with appropriate teaching materials.
  • Take class attendance, and maintain attendance records as directed by instructo
  • Observe students’ performance, and record relevant data to assess progress.
    • Read and follow the attached data entry instructions for setting up the spreadsheet
    • Review mind maps and summarize to instructor
    • Review exam results and summarize to instructor
  • Debrief classroom dynamics with instructor
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
